Aframax
AFRA stands for average freight rate assessment. The AFRAMAX is typically the size of crude oil tankers around 100,000 MT DWT. A good size that is not too small, i,e. larger than a Panamax and not too big, i.e. smaller than a Suezmax. The AFRAMAXes are popular in the Gulf of Mexico for ship-to-ship (STS) transfer operation where they load from VLCCs and ULCCs and thereafter discharge in inland ports south of Central America like Corpus Christi, Port Arthur, Baton Rouge, etc.
