Overseas Programme – Enriching Student Life with Holistic Education

Singapore Polytechnic (SP) fosters a global orientation mindset in students by raising their awareness of economic and social developments around our region through a wide range of programmes such as the overseas industrial training programme, internship or immersion programme. SP students are given opportunities to gain invaluable insight into the region’s current economic and social conditions through participation in overseas training programmes. These programmes help expose our students to foreign cultures and inculcate character-building traits such as independence and open-mindedness. Students would be enriched with a global perspective, which they could apply to their future work, business and life.

Education for a Real World Scenarios

During the course of such programmes, participants would be able to:

· Apply their skills and knowledge in real world working environments

· Gain a better awareness of world issues and develop a greater appreciation for other cultures

· Establish ties with other students from Singapore and overseas

· Hone life skills through living in a new environment including self-reliance, adaptability, teamwork and problem solving.

We had our first meeting on 17 Jul 2016. All participants who were present were briefed on the objectives of this OIP trip. Every student is assigned roles and responsibilities. The Trip Leaders are Eric and Hui Sien. Other ICs include T-shirt design, banner design, arts and performance, presentation, photo & videography, group leaders, etc. Other matters for discussion were minuted. Participants who absent themselves in this meeting are to pay heed to the meeting minutes. Oops! We forgot to take a group photograph in this meet up! We shall not forget this in the next meeting in August.

In the 2nd meeting, all respective ICs reported their ideas and plans, as applicable and available. Some other participants are assisting others who are in need of extra hand in executing their portfolios. The participants were being acknowledged of such commendable gesture. The Lecturer in Charge (LIC) briefed the participants on certain requirements that were advised by the travel company. Also, we voted on the T-shirt design, and the Banner IC gave us deadline of her design. We also allocated hotel rooms for all. We would like to thank Mr Ng, who is the OIC of the SMA overseas trip for joining us in this meeting. The students were treated with pizzas after the meeting.
